Christmas Vacation
December 31, 2008 at 1:45 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentOh man, where do I even start to describe how crazy the last week has been. And it has taken forever for me to even get a moment to sit down and try to write this post….
Let’s see…..last weekend….we had a lot of rain. I was down in the basement, doing some laundry and I bumped our sump pump. Well, when the morons came to install the new furnace in November, they broke the sump pump. So when I bumped it, water came flying out about four feet in every direction. This was not what I needed during my preparations for our trip. I called the heating company and proceeded to tear the service manager a new one. This is the same company that ruptured our water pipes and then sent us a bill for ($200) repairing the damage they caused. The service manager wanted to stop by and see the damage. The hubby decided that we would not go all weekend with a broken sump pump and went to home.depot and got a new one (to the tune of $140). He replaced the pump and left a voice mail for the service manager telling him that he didn’t need to stop by because I had taken a ton of pictures and could email them. But sure enough, Monday morning, didn’t the service manager stop by. Yeah, me in my yoga pants, t shirt, unkempt to say the least….two screaming babies and this guy doesn’t check his voice mai…..
Tuesday….
We loaded the car, we loaded the kids, we stopped at the bank to cash a check so we had some travelling money. The hubby thinks that there are still places in PA without ATM’s or the ability to take credit cards…..
The guy at the bank noticed that the hubby’s driver’s license had expired. GREAT! FRIGGIN’ WONDERFUL!!! So we drive out to the photo place and the hubby goes inside. He is ready to just get his picture taken and grab his license and away we will go. Yeah, well, that didn’t happen. So that meant that I got to drive both ways to Mom and Dad’s place…..yea me!
The kids did pretty good in the car. We did have to stop a couple times for diaper changes. Daniel thought it was a great time to poop. And then poop again. So that was fun. We pulled over on the turnpike and popped the kids in the front seat and changed them right there. And it was chilly. I felt bad for Daniel….his little boy junk….in the cold….on the side of the road…..oh the humiliation.
Wednesday….
Honestly, it was kind of a blur…I know we ate…alot….I was the official referee between my mother and Aunt and at one point, threatened to leave because of all the bickering. I helped count the kettles for the last time in my life (I have been counting Christmas kettles for 25 years).
Christmas morning was nice. Mom made mush. I love mush. I put the finishing touches on my nice homemade stuffing…..(no mix this time). The kids sort of behaved while we were there. Sorta kinda. The hubby was great. He did his best to keep them entertained. The kids weren’t interested in unwrapping anything, but really liked a few of their gifts….especially the Handy manny tool set. They also got a huge Elmo and a little Elmo Up Up doll.
The turkey came out perfectly, nice and juicy….but the corn casserole didn’t make it…..it was liquid in the middle. Oh well, no big loss.
We headed back home early Friday morning to meet my sister, BIL, niece and nephew who were on their way down to visit for the weekend from MA. We made good time on the way home (probably because I was the one driving). Got home, straightened up the house and waited for the 2nd half of our crazy Christmas.
My neice and nephew had a blast visiting with their cousins. They haven’t seen the twins in a year and of course, it is like night and day….they have just changed in so many ways.
We played girls vs. boy pictionary man. What a riot……..
On Sunday, we all went out for breakfast and my sister and her family headed home…
And then we exhaled…..
I promise I will post pictures soon.
It is my wish that everyone has a safe and happy holiday and new year. And your support and friendship over the past few months have been a great gift to me.
Hugs!

If you are interested in seeing the pictures from the photo shoot…
just click here.
The kids slept through the night AGAIN. That is three in a row….
ahhhhhhhh…..
Whoever said that val.ium was the “mother’s little helper” never tried benadr.yl on their fussy, teething, eczema riddled twins. No, I am not just randomly giving them meds, I am actually following our pediatrician’s advice…1/2 tsp every 4 hours….. I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT!!!!
We are in the midst of yet more crappy weather…its freezing rain out right now. Our poor little furbaby, Sasha (rat terrier) hates rain, let alone freezing rain…I just tried to coax her to go outside to do her business and she was none to happy about it… and boy is it slippery out there…I am lucky I didn’t fall down our stairs….(leaving the twins in their high chairs…at least they would be fed while I was unconscious and hypothermic in the back yard)
Survival

We did it. We survived the twins’ first photo shoot!!! Daniel and Melissa, dressed up, Mommy and Daddy in red…and my good friend, ”STBMR” was there to help and cheer us on.
We have a TON of pictures. This is great! Of course, if I had waited one more day to mail my Christmas cards, I could have sent EVERYONE a picture. I’m going to have lots of extras!!! I know that my family will understandif I mail the pictures after Christmas…they understand that standing in a long line with packages at the post office, with two kids in a double umbrella stroller is just an impossibility. There isn’t enough pro.zac in the world for me to do that…. Better late than never…
The photographer was good. I am a little bit of a photo snob…(I had a black and white darkroom when I was growing up, I have a great love of photography thanks to my father and grandfather…I even considered it is a career but then realized that I would need to eat….) but he did a nice job. I believe that I have permanently jaded Daniel from the camera. My camera has an autofocus / anti-red eye beam. Daniel sees the beam and scrunches up his face. Well, our poor photographer had a camera with the same features…and Daniel figured it out. He is normally very smiley. Not yesterday.
Melissa smiles when Melissa feels like it. So, we tried. And she made more of a monster growling face rather than an actual smile. Oh well. They are 14 months old…it’s not like you can reason with them. So, the hubby, “STBMR”, me and the photographer are jumping around like idiots trying to get the little girl to crack a smile….yeah….it didn’t work….
But, we did get some great shots and I am content with that.
On our way home, we stopped and picked up a baby gate from a family near by who had put it up for sale on craigs.list. Hey $7….(and I never pay full price for ANYTHING)
The kids passed out in the car on the way home. When we got home, we stripped them down to onesies….and they were smiling, happy, playing together….then Melissa bit Daniel. Daniel screamed. I come running over and see Daniel’s arm. WOW!!! My daughter has some chompers. And my son has a bruise in the shape of his sister’s mouth to prove it!
The hubby and I sat together on the couch watching stupid videos and more stupid videos on the internet….we were pretty much laughing our butts off. It was great…I really missed laughing with my husband and didn’t realize it.
The kids are still sleeping…2nd night in a row…..all night……I LOVE IT!!!!
We are supposed to be getting more snow and ice tomorrow. Crappy weather. I keep checking the forecast and it looks like both of our travel days to and from my parent’s place in Western PA are going to be clear. I just get very anxious thinking about winter weather with kids in the car. in ‘94 I was in a bad accident (cute little car vs. a snow plow)….I guess I am still jaded…..
Wednesday Is Picture Day

oh joy. this should be fun.
We had a nice bit of weather overnight. There is just enough snow to cover the grass and a small coating of ice on the branches and power lines. It is kind of pretty, but I am not looking forward to scarping the ice and snow off my car as I have absolutely no idea where the snow brush is.
Believe it or not, it is almost 7:30 am here and the kids are (shhhhhh….) still sleeping. That means that I got to sleep in until 7 am. Yipee! Too bad the noise from the traffic woke me up or I would still be in la-la land.
So we have some adorable “Santa” outfits for the kids. Now, if I can just manage to get them to the picture place without one or both of them getting a black eye, or a giant scratch across their face, it should be fine. Maybe if I bubble wrap them….Not over their heads, of course, just over everything else. The hubby has a nice new red shirt, I have a nice new red shirt, we will both wear jeans for the pictures. I thought about doing the whole “khaki” thing but it seemed too much like a G.ap commercial. We are also bringing jeans and red turtlenecks for the kids if we get brave enough for a wardrobe change…..
Despite writing out and mailing my Christmas cards, and the fact that we have lights on the house, I am just not feeling very “Christmas-y”. I guess it is because we don’t have a tree up, I haven’t been to the mall, I haven’t gone shopping at all, heard almost no Christmas music anywhere…. Hopefully, when we get to my parent’s house, the Christmas spirit will kick in.
There is just so much to do when I get there. And we have decided that we will travel on the 23rd and return on the 26th. Any longer than that and the kids will probably revolt. There isn’t a whole lot for them to do at Grandma and Grandpa’s house these days.
And for those who were a little thrown by my last post, it is more of a commentary on some of the small town (crap) drama that was/is happening IRL. Some people just need to grow up. They know who they are. Enough said…
I just heard someone upstairs and I am betting it is Melissa (who I am calling Walkie). Daniel we are now calling (Talkie). Yup, it’s Melissa…and she is giggling. Maybe today won’t be so bad after all….
Oh never mind, one of the dogs just threw up…. yeah, I knew it was too good to be true.

And…(Especially for A! (You know who you are))

yesterday it was 68 degrees….
Right now it is snowing.
It was freezing rain….
You never know what is next…
I am 90% done with my Christmas cards…(thumping my chest proudly!)
Hoping the weather is not so bad when its time for the hubby to drive home…
And to my very good friend “A” (you know who you are): You rock, Girl! Thanks for the call….and I needed a good giggle…..And these are the days of our lives….Drama….whatever!!!
Early Christmas Presents…A Red Letter Day…Finally!!!

So, yesterday, Melissa delighted us by taking 3 unassisted steps. We are delighted. Well, last night, right before we put the kids to bed, all 4 of us, and the 3 fur-babies, we all playing on the living room floor. I guess Daniel didn’t feel like being out done. So, he crawled over to the stairs…and started climbing them…12 of them….yeah! Not just one or two….12 people. I was cheering him on (probably not the best idea) and followed him up. I carried him back down the stairs and he was ready for another go….
They are really growing up right before my eyes….
Last year, all I wanted for Christmas was for them to be off their apnea monitors…this year, they just melted my heart. I don’t need a thing for Christmas….
I am attempting to write out Christmas cards…nothing like waiting for the last minute. The kids just went up for a nap. I am drinking a cup of coffee and at the moment, I am pretty damned content….
Just for fun…

December 15, 2008 at 1:15 pm | In Uncategorized | 2 CommentsYeah, so Saturday was not a red letter day in my book.
I got my hair done. I hated it. I mean the girl really didn’t get what I was saying. I came home, took out the hair pins and tried to do it myself.
Then, I called the portrait place to see if they could get us in any earlier than 4:30pm. They were booked solid. Also, the informed me that the whole ordeal takes about 2 hours. Yeah, our babysitters would be at our house at 6:30 pm. It was way too close, so we rescheduled’
We got all dressed up for the hubby’s holiday party and headed over. I am an IDIOT! Do not drink at corporate functions. I repeat…. Or rather do not let your wife, who is cooped up with your kids all day, drink at corporate functions. She has no tolerance for alcohol whatsoever. What she used to be able to do, she cannot anymore. She will make an ass of herself. Nuff said.
I feel like a world class moron…….but didn’t get the usual parting gift of a hangover the next morning……
Lessons learned….I am not 25 anymore. I cannot hang with the younger people and keep up with them. After all, they are young, single and childless…..and they go out every night……
